Ruins, Monuments and Follies by Nils Norman
Ruins, Monuments and Follies is a new commission by Nils Norman for aspex and Gunwharf Quays. The project addresses Portsmouth’s urban landscape, exploring the changing nature of public space, city design and the challenges of urban ecology. The exhibition will be both in the gallery and off-site including models, sculptures and digital drawings featuring local architectural landmarks, adapted and ‘recycled’ by Norman. We are invited to re-imagine the ways in which we approach our cities, considering how urban life could be more sustainable, the DIY reclamation of public space by local people and the re-appropriation of history. The exhibition in the gallery is accompanied by a series of poster works by the artist in bus shelters around Portsmouth; and a new permanent mural for Gunwharf Quays' pedestrian subway. Artist Talk with Nils Norman Wednesday 16 July, 6pm
