Ocean Car Park
Shortlisted for an RIBA Award and recent winner of Best New Car Park in Britain 2008, this naturally-ventilated, five-storey car park has been designed to minimise anxieties normally associated with parking, namely the fears of personal safety, getting lost, not being able to find a space, not being able to fit in the space, not being able to find your car again and not being able to get out. The car park has no internal columns, and is light and airy with dedicated pedestrian circulation routes that enjoy fabulous views out over the marina. Energy costs are reduced by the use of low energy light fittings on daylight sensors, combined with road paint throughout to reflect light back up off the surface. Rainwater is collected and used to irrigate the landscaping scheme.
