Art of Architecture in the Royal Landscape
Savill Garden, Thursday 29 May, 10am - 4pm
The Visitors' Centre in the Savill Garden
In small groups, design and build your own life-size 'retreat' out of willow withies, inspired by the nature in
the beautiful surroundings and the new Stirling Prize-shortlisted
Visitors' Centre in Savill Garden. This
is a day-long workshop for all the family.
The family workshop is followed by an evening talk and tour of the building led by architect, Jamie Webb from
Glenn Howells Architects.
The workshop and talk are held at the Savill Building located in the stunning
Windsor Great Park. Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, it was
recently shortlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize for outstanding architecture.
Have fun designing, with architects and artists
This fun and exciting workshop will explore large scale drawing and 3D designing under the guidance of designers
and architects, to help you produce your very own retreat space inspired by the natural surroundings and the complex
roof structure of the new Visitors’ Centre. Depending on the weather, we hope that the activity will take place on the
lawns. But don’t worry, there is a marquee on site in case the British weather is not kind to us on the day!
Workshop times: 10am - 4pm
The family workshop is followed by a talk and tour of the Savill Building by lead architect, Jamie Webb. Aimed more
at an adult audience, this is a great opportunity to find out what inspired the architects to design the building the
way they did and to discover how the gridshell roof structure was built. The talk and tour begin at 6pm and finishes at
7:30pm.
Please note: both events are free, but booking is essential as numbers are limited.
